Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is located in Troy, part of the capital district in upstate New York. It is close to the natural beauty of the Adirondack and Catskill mountain ranges and also within easy driving distance of several major metropolitan areas.
Albany airport (ALB) is fifteen minutes by taxi from campus and is served by all the major US carriers, including Southwest Airlines. The conference finishes at 4.15pm on August 4. It should be straightforward to get to the airport in time for a 6pm flight after attending the final session.
Rensselaer train station is fifteen minutes by taxi from campus, and is served by regular trains from New York City, which take a scenic route beside the Hudson River.
New York City, Boston, and Ithaca are each about three hours drive from
Troy.
Montreal is about a four hour drive from Troy.
Toronto, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, DC are each
between five and eight hours drive from Troy.
Here is a map giving RPI's location within Troy. The Franklin Square Inn is at the junction of River and Fourth Streets, at the west end of Grand Street, and the Rensselaer Inn is on 6th Street, at the east end of Fulton Street. If you drive in from Latham along Route 7, turn right on 15th Street to get to campus. (Route 7 is just off the northern edge of the map.) The conference will take place in the Darrin Communications Center (DCC), which is west of 15th Street, between Sage and College Avenues. Parking is free in the North Lot on weekends; for weekdays it is $5 per day, with permits available from the Parking Office in the Public Safety building on 15th Street. The North Lot is behind North Hall, with entrances from Peoples Avenue and Sage Avenue.
